"We don't always expect to win (primarily because we are not deluded) but we expect the ball on the floor, with an emphasis on skill/technique, and an entertaining game of football"

Southbank - Indeed, that is it in a nutshell & certainly not a unique concept to West Ham & many fans of over clubs.

Indeed, the only think I'll add & may already have been pointed out is that fuckwits & failed EPL managers like Souness & Shearer with their sneering & going on about not winning anything under the " West Ham Way" is actually a load of old bollocks as well.

They could argue that the game has changed , in which case not for the better, but the fact remains the only time we have actually won anything & or reached our highest league position was playing " The West Ham Way" as defined above.

No point arguing what might have been or making excuses for Allardyce. Fact is he was never a good fit and time was up. You're only trying to save face on backing a loser...

or perhaps the board due to the points on board already knew they could save the money Allardyce would've wanted to spend on new players and held it back for the new manager once he arrives

BFS had four years and spent tens of millions on strikers in that time. It is completely down to him that after all that time he starts CFC in his last game here.

Re: Deluded fans and clueless owners
The same coach who flirted with relegation for 3 quarters of the previous season you mean, Seamouse?

For once I don't think the BERKS have made a snap decision here. The writing was on the wall last season and the run of good form which was obviously not of his doing wasn't enough as after Xmas we've been shitter than last season.

Only Allardyce decided to start Carlton Cole and farm out Zarate on loan He had the resources but chose not to use them to get the best out of the squad

People really should stop making excuses for him

Re: Deluded fans and clueless owners
Allardyce is at fault for our poor of form at the end of this season, but you have to put it into context.

Should a coach, who had taken a club to third in the League by Christmas, have been treated the way he was by our owners? It was pretty shoddy wasnt it?

It was very simple - new blood and investment in the team in January would have kept us challenging for the top 8. We should not have been in the situation where Daniel Levy could have stitched us up in a player chain over Adebeyor. That sealed the deal.

Whatever - we had no stirker backup for when the inevitable happened - Sod's Law - Sakho and Carroll get fucked. Result - no goals for rest of season. But also Allardyce (by the blatant lack of investment) knew for sure that he was a goner
The Board had declared their true colours early. From that moment the morale of the squad would have plummetted like a stone just as much as the morale of the coach. From then on we were treading water and the season was over after the crushing defeat to WBA in the Cup.

And that is the sadness - we were 3rd at Christmas - what promise and potential lost.
The Owners are to blame - they threw it all away.

Thye blew it in two ways - first their tightness and miserly nature and second - their lazy smugness and complacancy over assuming the points we had gained at Christmas were enough - and the season would be ok.

And that's what I donlt like about Sullivan and Brady - they take huge risks. They gamble too much. They decided to underinvest in the club persistently before in the hope we would just miss relegation, and they blew it becauae we got relegated.. Thye have a history of this at Birmingham City too

The y are exactly like the Sports Direct owner of Newcastke - Ashby. He chose to save money and not hire a coach in January and they almost got relegated. His persistent meddling over the coaching and deliberate underinvestment has turned Newcastlke into a joke club.

We are no diffferent - we even have the same ridiculously fickle and poisonous fans, who will no doubt scream for dismissal of the new coach after the first cluster of defeats..

Until Newcastke get rid of Mike Ashby - they won;'t ever make seriousl progress as a top Premiership club. Likewise, until we get rid of Sullivan and Brady West Ham won't either.

It's not the coach that is the problem - they can flip and change like shuffling cards - it's the owners.

The West Ham way hmmmm

Did anyone see that Norwich second goal yesterday, if I had to put it into a recent bit of footy i've seen that goal would be it, that is The West Ham way for me.

Re: Deluded fans and clueless owners
1 All fans are to some extent deluded.
2 All owners are to some extent egotistical nut jobs.
3 BFS was so badly treated he got £3 mill a year.
4 Compared to Newcastle's hounding out of numerous managers and the Scouser outrage at Sterling, WHU fans were relatively lenient on BFS. We didn't like him, but we didn't cxxt him non stop.
5 The whole BFS fall out/new manager hype is tedious.
6 I'm glad I gave up my season ticket last season the EPL is a cxxtfest with few people to admire or feel good about. And it's predictable, you could order next season's top 6 now.

Re: Deluded fans and clueless owners
It is not deluded fans and clueless owners. It is deluded commentators who put SA and WH in little boxes and then trot out all the old cliches on automatic pilot.

SA - Box = Safe pair of hands but pragmatic football that keeps you up.

Reality = SA could only win 3 of the last 21 games or 14% win percentage! Journeyman manager that is just not good enough for anything beyond survival tactics.

WH - Box = mid-table yo-yo side with delusions of grandeur based on the history of the 1960s.

Reality = WH are the 8th biggest EPL side and the 19th largest in the world. More importantly, growing fast with a new stadium that will push us up those world rankings...

As I said the commentators that trot out all the old unthinking cliches are the real problem but I don't mind us showing the bastards....COYI

I couldn't care less if Kiran Moodley is smiling at this time next year.

I'm fed up with misplaced columnists creating demons - by making up concepts such as our supposed group of fans "demanding" European football - only to then foam at the mouth in deriding the aforementioned made-up demons.

Just to, in his mind, sell some extra newspapers. Or, in the case of the Independent, almost double its readership by selling an extra newspaper.

Re: Deluded fans and clueless owners
This bloke should be on suicide watch.

1. The trinity in the board room have not treated Allardyce wrong in any way. They stuck by him all the time his contrcat was running when there were lots of disgruntled voices wanting rid of him. The bye bye message so soon after the final whistle was almost certainly agreed upon so Sam wouldn't have to duck and dive with the interviewers, he could just say his bit and fuck off on holiday.

2. The West Ham Way, in my view, could just as well be called the Hungarian way. English football was just like Allaryce football when the Hungarians smashed England twice with a new never seen before style of quick pass to feet and move triangles. While the rest of England buried its head in the sand and pretended the hammerings didn't happen, and went back to their muscle and hoof game, Ron Greenwood was the one who had been taking notes and got us to play what became known asd the beautiful game and earned us the nickname of the aristocrats of football.

3. Fan delusion? Hmmmm. Some imaptient deluded fools out there, but he is being harsh on the West Ham fans, as they have been incredibly patient and tolerant on the whole. A few unhappy voices, but if the West Ham fans had really been against Allardyce, it would have been much louder and clearer long ago. In fact, I salue the paying fans for keeping their frustrations in check so well. I think they undertood Sam was only a bitter course of medicine that we wouldn't have to suffer forever.

4. It's true to some extent that Sam was often never to credit, always to blame. He didn't do himself any favours by always doing the inverse when he was interviewed, though.

Kiran Moodly, is a little bit moody, but he will be all smiles this time next year (or two or three....5 max) when we are milwionaires.

I think you're dead right about the 'west ham way'. It is as simple as you describe it. Some seem to want to put more into the term than it needs.

It is quite possibly the antithesis of delusional.

Re: Deluded fans and clueless owners
It's not what you are or who you were, it's about what you COULD be and getting there.
Settling for mid table safety tends to inevitably bring about the terminal decline into relegation material. Or, over ambition brings on implosion, such as Leeds.
Either way, we stank under stagnant Sam, aside from brief, revelatory performances that left us with the knowledge that we have potential and that it was not being realised under the Fat One.

To worry what Souness says is to worry about a bitter man who was a thug of a player and a grinder of a manager. To me, he matters less than what I expel when I blow my nose.

On the same programme, I was pleased by Jamie Redknapp's view of potential and also, Carragher's acceptance of the fact that it isn't about winning everything - Redknapp's outburst at that point was spot on- but about feeling it was worthwhile turning up. All too little of that principle under pragmatic Sam.
Hopefully his replacement can win some games but also do so with something approaching style.

southbankbornnbred 10:09 Tue May 26
Re: Deluded fans and clueless owners
I should add that you can replace the word "entertaining" with "attacking" in the description below. And then I'd be confident that is the supposedly elusive concept of the "West Ham way" in a nutshell.
